Located in the heart of town in a turn of the 20th century building (originally the People’s Lumber Company), Café Emporium is one of Ojai’s premier cafes with indoor/outdoor dining.
Since 1985, the restaurant has offered health conscious breakfast and lunch choices, all made from scratch using organic and locally grown produce. Special breakfasts include: “The Bruce,” (a grilled bagel, fried egg, sliced ham or oven roasted turkey with cheddar cheese), or try the sauteed tofu with veggies. The Emporium also offers breakfasts tailored specifically for kids and seniors. But, if you have a hard time choosing among the menu’s many breakfast choices, create your own – you can do that here.
Lunch is also a treat at the Emporium. Owner Trisha Proud proudly offers “Tried and True Sandwiches,” including slow roasted pulled-pork on a toasted sesame bun, topped with creamy cole slaw, or a variety of old-fashioned deli sandwiches and burgers. Try the “Mex Café” choices, or the Emporium’s famous freshly made quiche, or a selection of original salads, including its popular Topa Topa salad made with leafy lettuce, seasoned chicken, kidney beans, corn chips, tomato, house 1,000 island dressing, plus cheddar cheese, avocado and sour cream. A veritable feast!
If you’re pressed for time or don’t feel like a full meal, visit the Emporium’s bakery in the front of the building for a cuppa and a scone… perhaps a cinnamon roll or a bear claw. Nothing is more tempting than the smell of fresh baked muffins and Danish, and the bakery offers a wide variety. Don’t forget to check out the original antique vault door. Makes you wonder what Ojai tales are behind it!
As you stroll the golf green tasting and sipping, make sure you stop at Café Emporium’s table to feast on the Topa Topa Salad or its Famous Ojai Salad, two of the enduring tastes of Ojai.
