In 2010, motivated to recapture a piece of Ojai history, the Trudeau family restored the old house that had been for over thirty years, the legendary Antonio’s restaurant.  Abandoned in the 90’s, the space was in terrible shape and in need of serious repair.  The family was up to the task, creating Agave Maria’s which has one of the loveliest dining patios in town.  With its Baja resort décor you can slip away on a mini vacation every time you eat there.

Tracy Jeffares, the Trudeau’s daughter, took on the task of General Manager and created an atmosphere for the whole community to eat, drink and be merry.  Bathe in the afternoon sun while lunching on a fiesta shrimp salad or a taco or burrito filled with fresh ingredients.  Or drop in for dinner, sit by the fire and sip one of forty different tequilas with chips and salsa chasers and sample some of the authentic Mexican, farm-to-table dishes featuring farm fresh produce whenever possible, and organic beans and rice.  Specialty items include ceviche and handmade chili rellenos.  For non-carb eaters there’s Niman Ranch steaks and Chicken Campestre entrees.  And, you must try the Pixie Tangerine Margarita… it’s a pitcher perfect way to beat the heat.

Smack dab in the middle of town, Agave Maria’s is an excellent place to have a pre-theater dinner before enjoying a play at the Ojai Art Center Theatre (right across the street) or take a night off and corral the kids for a family night out.  Kids love tacos and melted cheese sandwiches (quesadillas)!

Stop by the Agave Maria’s table for a bite or two at Taste of Ojai, and savor the cantina flavors!
