Walking into the Casa Barranca (House of the Ravine) tasting room is like stepping into a friend’s cozy living room with a very long bar. The rich woods and earth colors fill the senses with memories of home and hearth.

Wine club and tasting room manager Alysia Dewar told me that the winery, owned by Bill and Eliza Moses, specializes in fine boutique wines from organic grapes (mostly from California’s Central Coast vineyards), and is certified as an organic winery which uses no toxic solvents or cleaners.

To top it all off, the winery is powered by solar energy. Delicious, healthful and a concern for the environment. Can’t beat that.

While you’re tasting all the fine foods at Taste of Ojai, come by the Casa Barranca booth for a little libation. Bruce Freeman and Sam Tulbery, this season’s winemakers, hope to premiere two 2013 whites and reds at the event. I’ve enjoyed their sauvignon blanc, sangiovese and merlot for a while, so I’m looking forward to trying their latest wines. Come click a glass with them.
