From starters to leaves & roots (translation: salads) to Watkins grass-fed burgers to half a hen or a lightly seared salmon, Ojai Harvest, located in the heart of downtown Ojai, is a collaboration between restauranteurs Spoon Singh and Lisa Ann, interior designer Channon Roe and local farmers. Together, they bring you a rustically styled bohemian bar and restaurant where you can sip craft cocktails, draft beers or wine and enjoy the robust taste of farm-to-table organic local fare.
For starters, there’s Harvest’s salmon jar, served with crackers, caramelized onions, pickles and caper berries, or the orecchiette & cheese pasta. Or savor their fulfilling grain bowl. If you’re not in a sandwich or burger mood, but need a little protein, add grilled chicken or salmon to the selection of salads. Lisa and Spoon strive to keep the menu diverse, filled with fresh ideas and the freshest of fresh ingredients.
Educated in boarding schools in India, Spoon, a native of Oregon, studied with Yogi Bhajam and eventually found himself in Hawaii where he started a brewery on the Big Island. It didn’t take him long to transfer his passion to food. Among his many restaurants are gastro pubs, Venice Ale House and The Bank of Venice in Venice, California.
Lisa, a former L.A. actor, had the food business in her DNA. Her grandfather had his own farm-to-table restaurant and her brother is a chef, so she was soon knee deep in the family tradition.
The couple settled in Ojai a few years ago, commuting to L.A. to oversee their restaurants there, but when the former Los Caporales restaurant space became available, they decided to plant their restaurant roots right here in town and opened Ojai Harvest restaurant and adjacent separate bar.
Open for lunch and dinner (and brunch on the weekends), Ojai Harvest is the only restaurant/bar in town that serves food until midnight. The restaurant closes at ten, but the full bar and patio remains open with a late night menu. They also have live music on the patio Friday nights.
Come for Happy Hour where drinks and food on a select menu are discounted and stay through dinner and a late night nightcap.
And, as you meander through Taste of Ojai, stop by Ojai Harvest’s table and try that delicious salmon jar on a cracker or two coupled, along with a craft cocktail.
